The MACRAME project will design, develop, and validate an energy-efficient, sensor-integrated, and AI-assisted bioreactor system that enables small and medium-sized farms to cultivate macroalgae and transform it into high-value biofertilizers directly on site.
The project proposes a compact, modular bioreactor combining IoT-based sensing, automated process control, and cloud-edge data management. By linking marine biotechnology with agriculture, MACRAME creates a tangible example of the blue-green circular economy, where locally produced seaweed becomes a sustainable, nutrient-rich input for Mediterranean crops.
MACRAME is funded through an Open Call of the I3-4-SEAWEED project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) Instrument (ERDF).
